Scholarship Lottery Program

The Newton Child Care Fund has a scholarship lottery program awarding $1,000 to families who meet the following criteria:

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Reside in Newton
  • Fall within the income guide lines listed below
  • Both parents (or parent, if single) must be working or attending school
  • Special circumstances may be considered

Scholarships can be used for any licensed summer or school year child care programs for infants, toddlers, preschoolers, after school or summer camp.

Applications for the next fiscal year (7/1/11-6/30/12) are being accepted from now until May 6, 2011.

You can call our office for an application or download one from our web site (PDF Format). All completed applications must be received by our office on or before the end of April, 2011 with a 2010 Federal Income Tax return. The lottery will be held during an evening in May, 2011 and families will be notified by mail with the results. These funds can then be used for child care services provided by a licensed provider between July 1, 2011 and June 30, 2012.

 

Scholarship Lottery Program

Since 1995, with support from the Rebecca Pomroy Foundation Grant, the Newton Child Care Commission has been able to sponsor workshops for single parents. The workshops run every other month from September through June and cover a variety of topics (see calendar). Topics have included some of the following:

Dealing with Legal Issues
Finding Funding Sources
Fiscal Fitness
Development Stages of Children's Acceptance of
    Separation/Divorce/Absence
Talking as a Way to Thrive as a Single Parent
Taking Care of Yourself, Making Time for You

There is no fee for the workshops and child care is provided free of charge.
